• [204 - Fashion] What is fast fashion ?

Hey it's Kristen and this is fast fashion in five minutes or less. Fast fashion is used to describe cheap trendy clothing that are very quickly coming in and out of style. Many fast fashion retailers introduce new products multiple times in a week in order to stay on trend. Just go into your closet and check the labels on your clothing. Chances are most of them are from fast fashion brands. So how did fast fashion manage1 to take over our closets and become so successful ? It's said that fast fashion is a response to a huge2 market of consumers that are demanding high fashion at a low cost but the truth is that fast fashion retailers are actually creating that demand because selling a sh*tton of3 clothes is really profitable. But how exactly do they maximize their profit ? Well, instead of replenishing their stock, they replace the items that sell out with new items of a different style, making our older clothes outdated and unfashionable and also making us constantly wanna4 keep shopping for new trendier clothes. Because fast fashion brands are constantly hunting for new trends, many times they steal and copy ideas from independent artists. They use advertising to stay relevant5 and further promote their constant changing trends. But the worst part is that they use cheap labour6 that is often sourced from sweatshops which are factories where workers are employed at inhumanly low wages for long hours and under poor working conditions. Fast fashion also comes at a huge environmental cost. Fast fashion takes ''fashion victim'' to a whole new level7. And if you are a fashion victim, stop it, get some help. To get started, watch my video about how to quit fast fashion right here and also check out my playlist that uncovers8 the darkest secrets of the fashion industry.

I’m agree with Kristen, the brands of fast fashion manipulated consumers because they choose what is trendy, so they urge customers to buy new clothes. They no respect the workers of fast fashion, their salary is very low to stay profitable. They also no respect the environment. Fast fashion is a market who is no respect nothing. They benefit of the naivety of people.

I agree with you since employees are underpaid although they work for long hours with poor working conditions in sweatshops. Sadly, there are environmental consequences like water pollution for example. Fast fashion companies put out 150 billion clothing items every year. Since the materials of the clothes are cheap, people throw them away after only a few uses in exchange for new clothing. I think It is a shame for the planet.

But to be honest, as a consumer, I think that I am a ''fast fashion victim'' thanks to high fashion and low costs attract me and a lot of people too. And indeed, most of my labels are from fast fashion brands: H&M, Zara, etc. I believe that I would be able to slow down or completely stop fast fashion to preserve the environment.

I agree with the girl when she says that we have to stop being fashion victims. Fast fashion has a big enviromental influence in a bad side, but the worst is that it's just inhuman to make people work in sweatshops. And more we buy these clothes, more they work. Even if we can't stop it suddently, we can at least reduce it.

I agree with Kristen. I find that the working conditions in the factories of major brands are deplorable. I also think that being interested only in major brands and new clothing serves nothing except to be "fashionable". I find that hurrying to go to the stores to buy new products is sad especially when people run to be the first on an item

I'm agree with Kristen , consumers are manipulated  because brands making constantly wanna keep shopping to stay on trend.

There are problems, first Fast Fashion come a huge environmental cost.

They no respect for workers of Fast Fashion because they're emplyed for long hours and they have extremeley low wages.

Their strategies are change trends regulary to do buy people, give  low wages for the workers, low prices for clothes, always to do buy and make advertising.

    Hello Kristen

I'm agree with you, we have to stop Fast Fashion. If we stop FF that will be better for the ecology, and for the workers, I find so sad that some humans have to work in these conditions. I loved your video because you explained very well and simply the strategies of FF's brand, you make me think about my clothes and the consequence of them, you make me change and I wanted to thank you about that.
